History of May's Lick oral history project, 1986-1988.

Thirty-eight interivews in which May's Lick residents discuss the history of their families and the town, education, business, farming (including tobacco), hog killing, transportation, medicine, religion, funeral practices, recreation, and social life. Many people share memories and stories about the Civil War, slavery, World Wars I and II, night riders, the Great Depression, and Prohibition. Several interviewees discuss segregation, the history of blacks in Mays Lick, and the lynching of Grant Smith. There is an interview with a descendant of Daniel Boone.

Daniel Boone (1734-1820) was a pioneer land settler, Indian fighter and he served in military and political positions in Kentucky. At the time this letter was written, he was on the verge of losing his many tracts of land because the titles were improperly entered.
